# Sharing

Sharing is a way to grant access to a knowledge source without making that source broadly available.

In a governed AI workflow, sharing helps determine whether a source is eligible for retrieval. If a user or application should not have access to a source, Katara should not use that source as context for that interaction.

## Why this matters

AI governance depends on source boundaries. Sharing provides one boundary that can help decide what information is available to a workflow.
