# Knowledge sources

Knowledge sources are the approved documents and systems that Katara can use to ground AI answers inside governed boundaries.

Knowledge sources are the approved documents, collections, and systems that Katara can use to ground AI answers.

In the new platform structure, this concept belongs to the [AI Knowledge Base](/about/platform/ai-knowledge-base.md). The goal is not to make every file available to AI. The goal is to keep retrieval tied to sources the organization has approved and can govern.

## Why this matters

Regulated AI workflows need source control. Teams should be able to understand which sources were available, which user or application was in scope, and why a response could use a particular piece of context.
