# AI Knowledge Base

The AI Knowledge Base is Katara's approved knowledge layer. It keeps retrieval tied to approved documents, systems, permissions, and policy.

For technical teams, it is the retrieval layer. For business, security, and compliance teams, it is the place where AI is limited to the information it is allowed to use.

## What it governs

The AI Knowledge Base helps keep AI answers grounded in sources the organization already trusts.

It is documented as a way to:

* restrict retrieval to approved sources;
* keep source boundaries attached to users and applications;
* reduce stale or out-of-scope answers;
* support audit and compliance review.

## How to think about it

Katara turns retrieval into a controlled path, not a loose search box. A request is evaluated against organization scope, permissions, and policy before approved knowledge is surfaced to an agent or application.

Detailed source setup and configuration are intentionally not covered here.
